Welcome to The Society to Refill the Grand Canyon

SOCIETY TO REFILL THE GRAND CANYON

The Society to Refill the Grand Canyon was formed in 1978 by environmental activist James Allen with the intent of returning the tourist attraction to it’s natural state; flat, usable, environmentally friendly land. Long before being “green” became popular, the Society began investigating the social and environmental benefits that could be accomplished by filling in the Grand Canyon. Since those intital days, the Society to Refill the Grand Canyon has been leading the fight to reclaim the Grand Canyon area from the destruction caused by the uncontrolled rushing waters of the Colorado River.

Although the Grand Canyon, located in Northern Arizona, is considered by some to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World,  to members of the Society to Refill the Grand Canyon, this popular National Park is known to be something far more sinister.

THE GIANT KILLING HOLE

Arizona itself has been called the land of dirt, weeds, and rocks. More than one visitor to Arizona has also referred to the southern city of Tucson as “Satan’s Asshole” because of the dry, arid conditions. However, few people realize that Arizona also has a “Giant Killing Hole” called the Grand Canyon.

Since the 1870’s, the Grand Canyon has murdered some 600 people by falling impacts, drownings, lightning strikes, and becoming physically exhausted to the point of death while trying to escape the confines of the canyon. Homicides have been attributed to overzealous “protectors” of the canyon. Other deaths have occurred after the Canyon sucked aircraft sightseeing tours over the canyon to the ground. (We have not been able to verify statistical data on deaths attributed to rabbid National Park animals or snakebites.)

Unfortunately, things may only get worse.

With the 2007 addition of the Grand Canyon Skywalk, tourists now have the ability to stand on a glass walkway, hovering 70 feet beyond the edge of the Grand Canyon. It is now easier than ever before for tourists to plunge 4000 feet to their death should the glass break, the structure fail, or they simply decide they don’t know what to do with their lives anymore (ie, suicide).

[The Grand Canyon Skywalk is located several hours away from the Grand Canyon’s South Rim.]

It is the hope of the Society to Refill the Grand Canyon that these senseless deaths will be prevented when the Grand Canyon has been restored to the flat plain it was designed to be so many years ago.
